How does a relaxed arm create kuzushi (breaking balance) on contact with uke? If your arm is relaxed, how do you move from center and affect uke? The answer is that it can’t, for most people. Muscular tension can do it, but it’s slow, lacks power, telegraphs intent, fatigues faster and there’s no clean connection with hara.
A better way? Pull silk. Read more about it in this post on our Budo Tanren Facebook page.
If you want to get some hands on and feel this unusual skill, drop by our Budo Tanren class on Thursday nights.
Shinto Ryu Iai-battojutsu – regular schedule.
Budo Tanren and Kids/Teens classes are cancelled. Several of us will be attending Dan Harden’s weekend seminar at Aikido Eastside.
A number of our instructors will be attending a continuing education seminar this weekend. See you at regular classes next week!
Unfortunately, our Kids/Teens Summer Camp pre-enrollment didn’t reach the minimum number of campers required, so we’re cancelling it for this summer.
A reminder that our board meeting starts at 8:15 pm tonight, Tuesday, August 8.
Waza and body skill warm up starts at 7:00 before discussion of our administrative agenda. 😁
Kids/teens classes are on for tomorrow, Tuesday 8/8. Weather’s cooled off a bit, but bring those water bottles. See you on the mat!
We are cancelling all Saturday classes due to the smoke related health advisory. No Shinto Ryu, Budo Tanren or kids/teens classes.
Stay cool and be healthy. See you next week!
Evan Bucy, Chief Kids/Teens Instructor, is offering a 5-day Budo skills summer intensive. Students may expect to have serious fun.
